How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on Bedroom Beds starts with one question: will this setup fit your mattress, room and needs? For a bed frame or support, that means checking dimensions, mattress compatibility, height, construction and how much space you have.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the room and the mattress

A platform bed with closely spaced slats may not suit every mattress. A storage bed can be a poor fit if drawers have no room to open.

We check bed size, frame and mattress dimensions, slat spacing, weight capacity, clearance, overall height and storage access. For pillows, sheets, toppers and protectors, we look at size, fit and the features that affect day-to-day use.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the details makers list: materials, support type, dimensions, weight limits, assembly needs, included parts and care instructions. For bedding, we compare fill or fabric, construction, thickness and sizing details.

Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like frames that wobble, slats that break, drawers that stick, protectors that shift or sheets that do not fit as expected.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A product that's right for a small room may score lower in a guide focused on a sturdy everyday frame.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name, dimensions and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.

We skip unknown brands with no track record and any product with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

We explain product features and fit considerations, but we don't make medical claims. Follow your mattress maker's support requirements and assembly instructions.
